Registration of Scooters & Wheelchairs
Over the last few weeks we have had lots of telephone calls from concerned Scooter and wheelchair users who are finding the new legislation regarding the registration of Mobility vehicles confusing.
To help clarify the situation we have tried to compile a list of the most frequently asked questions and answers.
Hope it helps!

Adaptacar's New Logo
Many of our regular customers will already be aware that we are in the process of changing our corporate identity. We are changing our logo to the one below. However due to the enormous upheaval this could cause, all changes will be done gradually. Please don't be disconcerted if you see advertisements with the new logo appearing in the latest Mobility publications! Sign writing and letter headings may have to wait awhile.
Due to our ever expanding range of Wheelchairs, Scooters, Mobility and Living Aids we have created a new subheading for this part of our business. It will be known as Life Mobility so please keep your eyes peeled for this as well.
We are still the same much loved Adaptacar, we are just having a facelift!

New Products from Pride
I am pleased to announce that Pride have just launched, what I think will be a revolutionary new product. Named the 'Navigator', first appearances suggest that it is just a simple 4 wheel Rollator, but as you know appearances can be deceptive! In fact the Navigator is a dual purpose Walking Aid cross Travel Wheelchair. The clever little gadget allows the user to have a conventional type Rollator walker, complete with seat and backrest and a compact Transit Wheelchair all in one.
Even better it folds away tidily into its own carry bag.
Perfect for those who have difficulty walking un-aided but want to retain their mobility. When you get tired out from all that shopping you can simply reverse the back rest and pull out the leg hangers/footplates, take a seat and be propelled by an assistant.
Available from the end of April the RRP for the Navigator is £295.00 (Not Including VAT, but this may be zero rated)

Off Road Fun with Hand Controls
In conjunction with QPOD, adaptacar are excited to launch a new range of Adapted vehicles, designed with Fun in mind.
The QPOD range supplied by Adaptacar include the QPod Sport, a compact on and off road vehicle and the QPod Fun Buggy a roomy 2 seater all terrain vehicle which is also road legal.
We are delighted to be the sole suppliers of the QPod - HC, which is especially adapted for the Disabled driver.
The QPods are fully automatic and we have added our bespoke Push/pull Hand Controls, making it one of the first Off-road fun vehicles on the market.
The Fun Buggy was tested by James Alexander, a 28 year old Paraplegic Rally Driver. Here's what he had to say...
"Fantastic! Absolutely Awesome!"
"For the first time I've found a vehicle that I can get into and have great fun."
"Quads are great but due to my disability they are difficult to get on to, and once I am on there I can't balance very well."
"The QPod has conventional shaped seats with belts that keep me secure, leaving me to concentrate on speed!"
"I can transfer directly to and from my wheelchair which makes off-roading accessible."

Adaptacar gets Royal Seal of Approval
We at Adaptacar recently took advantage of an opportunity to demonstrate our work at the Royal Mews, Buckingham Palace.
To mark the provision of two million cars through the Motability scheme, of which we Adaptacar are a key approved supplier. The company adapted two Chrysler Voyager vehicles which were then demonstrated to Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandria on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen.
The two vehicles, which will be used for assessment work include an impressive array of cutting edge technology products to allow clients to 'Drive from Wheelchair'.
These include:-
- Electric tie-down systems
- A range of steering wheel aids
- Spacedrive mini steering wheel
- Electronic joystick
- Electronic accelerator and brake
- Push/pull hand controls
- Accelerator and brake pedal extensions
- Electronic gear selectors and push button ignition
- Infra-red and bleeper systems for secondary controls
- Cushions
- Blind spot mirrors
- and other accessories
Stuart Courtney, our Managing Director at Adaptacar, commented: "We were really proud to have our work on the new Motability assessment vehicles given the Royal seal of approval. The adaptations represented several months of hard work but the Chrysler Voyagers are now on the road providing Motability with two gleaming black demonstrators which I am sure will have many years of hard work ahead of them".
The picture opposite is of old motability cars.
